Tuberculous inflammation, illustration. Tuberculous, fungous inflammation of the knee joint. The joint cavity shows pus and fibrin deposits with the synovial membrane covered with granulations (inflammatory products) and yellow tuberculous nodules. The cartilage surfaces of the patella and femoral condyles are intact indicating the process is of a recent date. Tuberculous nodules are granulomas containing necrotic tissue, and epithelioid and inflammatory cells. The condition is degenerative and presents as arthritis.
