African savanna elephants (Loxodonta africana) at sunset. These elephants are the largest land mammals in the world, with adult males standing up to 3 metres high and weighing up to 6,000 kilograms on average. They can live up to 70 years in the wild. Since 2021, they have been classed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) list of threatened species. They are under threat by habitat destruction and also by poaching for meat and ivory. Photographed at the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana.
