Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain of a patient with Sturge-Weber syndrome. This is a rare congenital (present from birth) vascular disease that can affect the brain, eyes and skin. Abnormal proliferation of blood vessels causes growths known as angiomas (orange, centre right). In the skin these growths cause a port wine stain birthmark, in they eye they lead to abnormalities such as glaucoma and around the brain they can cause muscle weakness or paralysis on one side of the body (hemiparesis) and seizures.
