Sunspots on the Sun, 1892. Sunspots are areas of magnetic activity that are cooler than the rest of the Sun's surface. They range in size from hundreds to thousands of kilometres across. This image was recorded using an instrument called a Dallmeyer photoheliograph operated at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, UK, on 13 February 1892.
