It is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, especially in India and Sri Lanka. The infection occurs when the parasite enters the body through a cut or wound on the skin or mucous membrane. Once inside the body, the parasite forms cysts and grows, causing the formation of polyp-like structures in the nose and eyes. The polyps can grow to be quite large, causing discomfort, obstruction of breathing, and disfigurement.
