A team led by Mark Hollands, of Warwick University, discovered a white dwarf with bizarre characteristics, such as a very high mass, a high speed through the galaxy, and high levels of carbon in its atmosphere. They conclude that the object resulted from the merger of two more normal white dwarfs.
