Rahim lives in a slum at Kamrangir char in the capital of Dhaka. His parents are day labourers and he hawks around, selling cigarettes, to help his family. He goes out every morning and roams around bus stands, parks and busy streets where people gather. Asked for the reason for his selling cigarettes, Rahim says it has demand. Smokers cannot live without it. In Bangladesh, the rate of smoking is comparatively higher in most other countries. Thought there is a law against smoking in public places, Rahim says that he heard of it but never saw legal steps against smoking in public places. He also knows that smoking kills as labels now feature images portraying tobacco injuries. ??? do not understand what people get by smoking,??he says. He said that he had a puff or two sometimes but it tastes bad. Asked why he then sells cigarettes, he says he would stop selling cigarettes if he finds a better option. ???ow I am actually vendor of death,??he says.
