Death of Koprili the Virtuous. Zade Mustapha Koprili; or Koprili Pazyl; which means Koprili the Virtuous; was born in 1637 and became Grand Vizier to Suleiman II in 1689; after Turkey's forces had been driven from Hungary and Poland and her ships from the Mediterranean. He inaugurated many wise reforms; particularly in finance; and made new laws for improving the condition of the Christian subjects. Koprili commanded the victorious Ottoman armies during the campaign of 1690 against the Austrians; but was killed at the battle of Salankamen in 1690 while bravely rallying his men.
