Satellite image of North West Island in Australia. This fish-shaped island is a coral cay that is part of the southern Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is an expansive area, stretching 2,300 kilometres long, and it includes 3,000 reefs, 600 islands, as well as a variety of marine life such as fish, starfish, turtles, dolphins, and sharks. Regrettably, due to pollution and global warming, the reef has lost half of its coral surface and has experienced significant bleaching over the past 30 years. Image obtained by the SPOT satellite in 2022.
