The interiors of Continental cathedrals, have, as with us, considerable sameness, though each has some one or more features of interest not to be found in any other...We must not omit mention of a fresco, on the south side, which preserves the singular tradition that the cathedral was built by Henry the Lion on the very spot where he had caught a wonderful stag, let loose by Charlemagne 400 years previously, with a jewelled collar about its neck and a cross between its horns, and bearing this inscription: "Hoc Caesar me donabat".
