Nile monitor lizard (Varanus niloticus). This is Africas longest lizard, sometimes reaching lengths of over 2 metres, of which more than half is tail. It frequents swamps and river banks where it takes prey from insects to small mammals. Photographed in Chobe National Park, Botswana.
