Cutaneous amyloidosis on a patients skin. This is a disease where the protein amyloid accumulates in the skin. This changes the skins structure, which may lead to the formation of lesions on the skin surface. The origin of the amyloid deposits is uncertain, but they may be derived from plasma or keratinocyte cells following cell death. There is no cure for amyloidosis, but the production of amyloid in the body can be slowed down by certain medications.
