Crusty, amorphous sulphur deposits formed in voids and open surfaces on top of Volcano Island, just north of Sicily, Italy. Sulphur is an abundant, non-metallic chemical element. In nature, sulphur can be found both as the pure element and in compounds, such as sulphides and sulphates. Elemental sulphur, whether amorphous or crystalline, is most often found in volcanic environments. Actual width of this sample 85 cm.
