Relief with the Deposition Relief with the Descent from the Cross; In a landscape rising to both sides; the cross is flanked by that of both murderers. Two men; on ladders placed against the cross; are in the process of surrendering the limp body of Christ to a man standing below them who has raised his arm. In front of him stands Johannes with Maria in her arms; who extends her hands to her son. Behind John a holy woman with a turban kneels; a second holy woman stands with hands in prayerful pose and with the head turned away from the cross. To the right of the cross two Pharisees in conversation with a soldier; more in the foreground the hundred men with a soldier. Mary Magdalene kneels at the foot of the cross that she embraces. The background consists of tendrils with flowers. At the top left the shining sun; on the right the moon is obscured by a cloud. Most men wear Jewish hats; the latter soldier a hoodie of mail and a sort of paltrok. The holy women have nimbuses; descent from the cross: Christ is tasks down from the cross; usually by Nicodemus and Joseph or Arimathaea who are standing on the ladders (both arms or Christ detached); anonymous; Paris; c. 1400 - c. 1420; ivory; gilding; h 6.0 cm
