Italian patriot; spokesman for the Pope of popular needs; he fought for the second Roman Republic; when the French army of Luigi Napoleone Bonaparte had the upper hand; he fled with Giuseppe Garibaldi to reach Venice; but was arrested by the Austrian authorities and shot.
