Zaire - The Ebola is a tributary of the Mongala in northern Zaire; which flows into the Congo; and Ebola fever first occurred on its banks. In 1976; Belgian doctors first documented the often fatal fever in the Catholic mission hospital in the village of Yambuku; about 100 kilometers south of the Ebola. The cause of the infectious disease is believed to be the trade; preparation and consumption of fresh monkey meat or other game meat. Here: nuns and staff in front of the Catholic mission station in the village of Yambuku.Zaire; 1995.
