PATAN PATOLA.
India; Gujarat. 19th c.
Silk; double ikat. In the field a characteristic grid pattern with stylized flowers. Borders on the edges with elephants and parrots. At the beginning and end of the fabric a border with gold threads. This kind of patola cloth were woven for ceremonial use in South Sumatra. 372 x 134cm. Condition A/B. Slight traces of use and damage.
