Farmer planting corn directly into his cover crops, made of a 12 seed mix: cereal rye, triticale, annual rye, rape, black oats, Balansa Fixation clover, Kentucky Pride Crimson, Hairy Vetch, Australian winter peas, Red clover, turnips and winter barley. Cover crops are planted to cover the soil, rather than being harvested. Cover crops reduce soil erosion and water runoff. The farmer also uses no till planting on his farm. No till planting is when seeds are planted without tilling the soil. It is a regenerative farming practice that reduce soil erosion. No till planting also increases carbon sequestration, where carbon dioxide in the air is captured and stored in the soil. Photographed in Evansville, Indiana, USA on the 13th of May 2021.
