Choirboy Puts His Foot In It Beating Thames Boundary -- The choirboy being lowered over the side of the boat to 'tread' on the Thames, as other choirboys beat the boundary with canes. Because the Parish boundary extends into the River Thames, choirboys from St. Dunstan's College, Catford (London) put, out in a boat to make a thorough job of the traditional ceremony of Beating the Bounds of the bombed City church of St. Dunstan in the East, London. A choirboy was lowered over the side until his foot touched the water. Other choirboys touched the water with canes. May 04, 1949. (Photo by Reuterphoto)
