In the center, at the far end of the hall, are two upright cases containing the portraits of Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan. The alcoves on either side are hung with scrolls on which are written the edicts of the sun-Goddess Amaterasu O-mikami and the first Emperor Jinmu. The walls are hung with framed parchments recording the Imperial rescripts issued since the beginning of the Meiji era. All this symbolized the spirit of universal benevolince. March 1, 1939.
