Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi, (1743-1819), German philosopher, literary figure, and socialite. Jacobi is best known for coining the term nihilism. He used the term in order to criticize the work of philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) and other thinkers who supported rationalism during the Age of Enlightenment.
