Flame Nebula, composite image. The Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) is an emission nebula that is around 1400 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Orion. This view shows the star cluster at the centre of the nebula. Two space telescopes have been used to construct this image. X-rays from the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) are purple, while infrared data from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope (SST) are red, green and blue. Image published in 2014.
