Small clippings of four metals, copper, magnesium, iron and zinc are arranged in a spotting tray and the reactivity is determined by adding metal ions - copper sulfate, magnesium sulfate, iron(II) sulfate and zinc sulfate solutions. A displacement reaction will take place if the metal is more reactive than the metal in a solution - present as an ion - and these can be assessed.
