Atopodentatus prehistoric marine reptiles, illustration. These reptiles lived 247-242 million years ago, during the Middle Triassic period, in what is now China. Atopodentatus were herbivores that ate plants and algae. They could grow up to 3 metres in length. The Atopodentatus unicus species is the earliest known herbivorous marine reptile.
