Sample of rock containing iron oxide and meteorite fragments from the floor of the Barringer Crater, a meteor in Arizona, USA . A large iron meteorite impacted at this location around 50,000 years ago. The resulting crater measures over 165 metres deep, with a diameter of over 1.6 kilometres. The crater and surrounding area contains many fragments from the original meteorite, which had an estimated mass of 10,000 tonnes.
