Satellite image of the world's largest iceberg, A68a (left) adrift in the South Atlantic Ocean heading for the island of South Georgia (upper right). This iceberg split from the Larsen C ice shelf in Antarctica at the end of July 2017. The iceberg split further soon after calving, with the main iceberg named A68a. At 4,200 square kilometres the iceberg is roughly the same size as South Georgia. If the iceberg comes close enough to the island it will run aground in the shallow water, anchoring off the coast. This could cause disruption for wildlife on the island, such as penguins and seals, that would have to detour around the iceberg to hunt.
