Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the abdomen of a 27 year old male patient showing Tarlov cysts in his lower spine. Tarlov cysts are sacs filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the nerve root sheaths. They can put pressure on the nerve roots causing pain. The cysts can be drained to relieve the pain, although this is often only a temporary effect.
