Solar eclipse. The Sun's atmosphere, or corona, is visible as a pale yellow glow as the Moon completely covers the Sun's disc. The corona is a plasma made up of ionised atoms that extends millions of kilometres into space. The corona has a temperature around 1 million Kelvin, much hotter than the surface of the Sun. Also visible are features of the unlit, dark side, of the Moon. This is possible because the Earth reflects sunlight, a phenomenon known as Earthshine, illuminating features on the Moon. Photographed on 2nd July 2019, in Lambert, Chile.
