Ireland; Co. Donegal; Glenveagh National Park: Glenveagh Castle (built 1870 - 1873) with walled garden. John George Adair (1823-1885) bought the 160;5 km?big area between 1857 and 1859 and moved away 242 families who lived alon the lake. In 1873; he finished the construction of Glenveagh Castle at the shore of Lake Veagh. Glenveagh; meaning glen of birches. Adiar died; in 1885. His wife Cornelia continued to extend the wonderful gardens to a park; until her death; in 1921. After several US-ownerships; in 1937; Henry McIlhenny from Philadelphia (USA) bougt the estate and extended the park again; in the 1940s. In 1975; he sold the grounds to the irish office of Public Works. In 1981; he granted the gardens (park) and the castle to the newly established National park; the second biggest in ireland. The grounds of the Natioal park opeend 1984 to the public; the castle; in 1986. The castle had several illustrous guests; including several visits of Greta Garbo and Yehudi Menuhin as well as further Hollywood stars.
