Historical engraving of the french painter Jean-Pierre Houel (1735-1813) which depicts the Cave di Cusa (Quarries of Cusa - carri鑢es de Cusa) an ancient stone quarry in Sicily. Entitled 'Carriere de Selinunte' the scholar hypothesizes a system of transportation of the blocks (1782)The Cave of Cusa is located near the town of Campobello di Mazara (west of Sicily).This site was quarried beginning in the first half of the 6th century BC and its stone was used to construct the temples in the ancient Greek city Selinunte (at about 11 km). It was abandoned in 409燘C when the city was captured by the Carthaginians. It is now an official Sicilian Archeological Zone and a popular tourist site. Italy; 2018.
