On entering the Mosque the Moslem takes off his shoes, carries them in his left hand, sole to sole, and then passes over the threshold, right foot first. He then goes and performs his ablutions at the fountain, which we see in the open court, soap being provided for those who more especially need it [B]. This done, he again carries his shoes, and after selecting a suitable spot to perform his devotions, he places them on the malting in front of him.
