Sambre Oise - Sambre - Oise Canal Sambre - OIse Canal - Oct - Nov 1918 Lt Wilfred Owen MC Manchester Regiment was killed here on 4th Nov in attack across the canal whilst 2 other officers (one from Lancashire Regiment) were awarded VCs. Shot looking north-east towards la Motte near the point where the Manchester Regiment were trying to cross the canal on floating cork bridges. Two VCs were awarded to 2nd Lt James Kirk & Lt Col John Neville Marshal for the same action.
