Gonorrhea is the most common reportable communicable disease in the United States. A contagious inflammation of the genital mucous membranes, gonorrhea may also affect the heart, oral mucosa, rectum, or joints. In the female, the urethra, vulva, vagina, and fallopian tubes are affected. In the male, a yellow micro purulent discharge from the penis results from the inflammation of the urethra.
