Entitled: "Newmann the Great" lithograph poster, 1930. Charles Andrew George Newmann (November 28, 1880 - December 29, 1952) was an American hypnotist and pioneer mentalist. He was born during the pioneer days when Indian uprisings, bank robberies and highway holdups were frequent occurrences. By the age of 13, Newmann The Boy Wonder was presenting a hypnotic and mind-reading show. For many years he limited the majority of his performances to the Northern Middle Western States, returning to the same cities year after year, giving performances in his own tent. He was an ardent collector and had one of the largest magical libraries. After many years of extensive searching, his library was told to contain seven thousand publications, making it one of the largest of its kind in America at the time. In his later years he demonstrated hypnosis before classes of psychology at colleges in Minnesota and North Dakota. As late as 1950, he was still appearing in the major auditoriums in Montana and adjacent states. He died in 1952 at the age of 72.
