In an effort to explain and show in simple terms the how the neutron splits the nucleus this visual experiment was conducted. A carbon dioxide rocket (representing the neutron) with sparklers attached) were fired at a balloon, (representing the nucleus) and when it burst released smaller balloons. Nuclear fission is the process of splitting atoms, or fissioning them.
