The Leopard Slug (Limax maximus) is common to eastern forests. This species is also called the giant garden slug, spotted garden slug, or leopard slug. These slugs are a common pest to residential gardens. This individual was photographed in Brooklyn, NY. The open cavity in its side is called a pneumostome. This is the opening through which the slug breathes.
