Pupa of the filament-bearer looper moth, Nematocampa limbata. Small pieces of leaves are attached with silk to the outside of the pupal skin. The caterpillar of this moth is extremely strange in appearance and has 2 bifurcate filaments that sprout from the middle of its back. The wingspread of the adult moth is less than one inch. It can be found from British Columbia and Nova Scotia south to FL and west to CA. Photo taken Dallas, TX on cedar elm (Ulmus crassifolia).
