'The Colbert family', c1680-c1683. The Colberts were a prominent family during the geign of Louis XIV of France, including the king'sprincipal minister Jean Baptiste Colbert (1619-1683) who is central in the painting. All the figures are dressed in the uniform costume of the Order of Saint Esprit.
