Nuclear-powered research submarine. Port bow view of the nuclear-powered research submersible NR-1, operated by the US Navy. It was launched in 1969 and at 45 metres in length was the smallest nuclear submarine ever launched. It had a crew of around ten. NR-1 took part in a number of missions, some of which were classified. It was deactivated in 2008. Photographed in 1986 at Port Canaveral, Florida, USA.
