A supermoon phenomenon occurs when a full moon or a new moon is closest to Earth during its elliptical orbit. This results in the largest visible size of the lunar disk from earth. The image was taken in the Nossob riverbed of the Kgalagadi transfrontier national park on 14 November 2016. On this day the supermoon was the closest to earth since January 26, 1948, and will not be surpassed until November 25, 2034.
