Running Free starring Chase Moore with Lucky 2000 The film, which begins in 1914, tells the story of Lucky, a colt that is born on board a ship carrying horses from Germany to South West Africa to work in the copper mines. Once ashore, Lucky is separated from his mother - an understandably traumatic experience. He is soon adopted by a young boy (Chase Moore), has a run in with Caesar, the pure-bred stallion who rules over the stables, and is set free when World War I breaks out and the miners leap aboard a train to head elsewhere. Despised by Caesar, Lucky is forced to leave his home and venture into the desert, where a young bushman girl (Maria Geelbooi) teaches him ways to survive in the seemingly barren environment. After a period on his own in which Lucky grows stronger and self-reliant, he returns to the settlement to challenge Caesar in a sequence that echoes a High Noon showdown in an old Western. Then, like an equine Moses, he leads the herd to the Promised Land.
