Scoliid wasp (Colpa sexmaculata) resting on a plant. Scoliid wasps (family Scoliidae) are solitary parasitoids of scarab (dung) beetle larvae. Females burrow into the ground to find the larvae and paralyse them with their ting. They then lay an egg next to the scarab larva , which serves as a food source for its own larva when the egg hatches. Photographed in Sardinia, Italy, in August.
