Marcus Stone (1840-1921) British history painter. Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn Observed by Queen Catherine (Catherine of Aragon) , in doorway, whose portrait is on wall behind them. Anne has been playing the lute for the king watched by a gathering of courtiers . Cardinal Wolsey, right of centre, looks on. The little dog, traditionally symbolising fidelity, is an ironic touch.
