MODEL RELEASED. Ultrasound physiotherapy. Female physiotherapist uses ultrasound equipment to treat a female patient. The patient is suffering from a haematoma (bruise) on the hip. The therapist uses a probe to pass high frequency sound (ultrasonic waves) into the muscles of the effected area (top centre). A clear gel is applied to the skin first to aid contact. A haematoma is a localised collection of blood caused by bleeding from a ruptured blood vessel. It is thought that the ultrasonic waves relaxes the muscles and this hastens the healing process.
