Hormone replacement therapy (HRT): pack of Prempak-C pills, a drug used in the treatment & prevention of post-menopausal osteoporosis. This pack contains 28 days supply, the patient taking 2 pills from day 17 onwards. In osteoporosis, a reduction in bone density leads to an increase of fractures following minimal trauma, particularly in the neck of the femur (upper thigh), the vertebrae (which collapse) & the forearm. Bone loss increases following the menopause. Oestrogen replacement (ie HRT) is the only therapy which has been demonstrated to prevent osteoporosis & reduce the number of related fractures.
