Rodney Brooks with the logo of the AI Lab at MIT. Rodney A. Brooks is the Director of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Cambridge, USA. Born in Australia, he received his PhD in computer science from Stanford University, California, USA, in 1981 and joined MIT in 1984. His research interests are artificial life and humanoid robotics. The MIT AI Lab's robots include the humanoid Cog and Kismet, which displays expressions on its face, and the walking quadrupeds Macaco and Coco. Brooks is Fujitsu Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. He is co-founder of the iRobot Corporation which markets robotic products.
