Zinc hydroxide precipitate formed by adding sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to a solution containing zinc ions. Zinc hydroxide (Zn(OH)2) is precipitated out of solution as a white solid that is soluble in excess NaOH to give a colourless solution. Addition of sodium hydroxide is used as a test for positive metal ions in solution.
