The Equestrian Statue in Windhoek commemorates the German soldiers who were killed during the wars to subdue the Nama and Herero people between 1903 and 1907.Behind the statue is the old fort, built by the first Schutztruppe (German colonial troops) when they arrived around 1890. The building now forms part of the National Museum.
