A child is carried on his mother's back in a beautifully decorated leather carrier. A woman's body is smeared with a mixture of red ochre, butterfat and herbs. They still dress traditionally, wearing leather garments and a variety of ornaments made of leather with wood, ostrich shell and metal beads. Their hair is styled in long ochred plaits.The Himba are Herero-speaking Bantu nomads who live in the harsh, dry but starkly beautiful landscape of remote northwest Namibia.
