Hydroelectric scheme. This is the Tungu-Kabiri micro-hydroelectric scheme on the slopes of Mt Kenya, Kenya. The dam here has been built at the top of the Kabiri Falls, and some of the water has been diverted down a side channel (left). The channel is 250 metres long, 85 centimetres wide, and supplies water to a hydroelectric power plant at a rate of 1 metre a second, producing 14 kilowatts of power. The channel has a silt trap (not seen) where the channel widens and deepens, forcing the silt (seen here, brown) to drop to the bottom. For the power plant, see image T130/183.
